CHARLOTTE -- You'll soon see fewer mobile classrooms at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.
Two years after voters rejected a smaller bond package, the majority -- 68 percent -- said yes to a $516 million bond package Tuesday. The bonds will pay for 40 projects including the building of 12 new schools and the renovation of 11 others.
“I just think it shows that the community cares about schools, that's all,” said CMS superintendent Peter Gorman. “We are working hard every day, but I think these are moms and dads and citizens without kids in school saying that schools are important."
Leading up to Election Day, opponents of the CMS bonds argued that building new facilities won't improve student achievement.

In other election results, a $30 million community college bond passed by a 70 to 30 percent margin and a $35.6 million land bond was approved with 64 percent of the vote.
