RALEIGH – The 21st annual Walk for Hope jumped into high gear Sunday in Raleigh. The event helps raise money for the Foundation of Hope for research and treatment of mental illness.

Last year, more than 3,000 people turned out and raised more than $400,000.

Organizers say it’s the largest known fundraising walk for mental illness in the country. Van Eure, with the Angus Barn, says 21 years of raising money for the Foundation of Hope is paying off.

“The results of our research go nationwide, and we should be so proud because most of the research is being done right here at UNC, in the psychiatric division at UNC,” Eure said. “Our researchers have made such amazing strides.”

Festivities run through Sunday afternoon with music and a fun zone for kids. News 14 Carolina also had a team of walkers at the event.

News 14 Carolina and Time Warner Cable, News 14 Carolina's parent company, are sponsors of the event.
