Shawn joined News 14 Carolina in July 2003 as a general assignment reporter. He moved all the way across the country from Santa Barbara, Calif., where he previously worked as an enterprise and investigative reporter for KCOY-TV.
Shawn began his career as a producer at KEYT in Santa Barbara. There he won several awards, including best newscast and best live breaking news. From there, he went on to work as an anchor and political reporter for the CBS affiliate in Medford, Ore.
He is a graduate of the University of California-Santa Barbara, and is originally from Atlanta. Shawn says after spending so much time on the West Coast, he is happy to be closer to home and his family.
In February 2007, Shawn was promoted to Managing Editor in the Charlotte newsroom.
When he's not working, Shawn likes to strap on the boots and head out to the pitch to play soccer. He is also an amateur still photographer.

CHARLOTTE -- During his story live on the air in front of Bank of America Stadium on Thursday night, reporter Shawn Flynn proposed to his girlfriend, Stephanie Milam, after dating for 14 months and 6 days.
Her answer? “I will!”
Shawn surprised Stephanie by bringing her onto television live when she wasn't expecting it.
