The Rev. Thomas Holbrooks, pastor of Pilgrim Baptist Church, said the skit was intended to honor the history of gospel music and not to be disrespectful to anyone. But some black church leaders in the area felt the play offended their community.

The Rev. Austin Rammell of Hardin Baptist Church spoke to Holbrooks about the apology, which read, "I meant no harm in the blackface skit, however there are those who have been offended and for that I am sorry."

Rammell hopes the community can accept the apology and move forward.
