MONROE, N.C. -- A Union County nursing home is under a self-imposed quarantine.
Thirteen residents and three staff members at the Jesse Helms Nursing Center are sick with symptoms of a gastrointestinal virus. Initial lab results ruled out the highly contagious norovirus.
The center is turning away visitors and has cancelled group activities.
Carolinas Medical Center-Union runs the 70-bed facility. A spokesperson said the quarantine should be lifted in the next few days.
