Winner chosen in Subway contest

RALEIGH -- Some people go to the State Fair just for all the great food and that continued Tuesday at the Seriously Twisted Sub Contest.
Five finalists were chosen from nearly 3800 online entries where contestants used meats, cheeses and vegetables to craft a creative culinary masterpiece. The contest was sponsored by Subway and the N.C. State Fair.
A panel of judges including Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler tasted the five subs and choose a champion.

Jared Fogle, the Subway Guy, hosted the tasting and announced the winner.
William Dawson of Raleigh won the contest with his sub, called the "Blackbeard Spicy Sweet Seven Seas." He won Subway sandwiches for a year and tickets to the Subway 500 in Martinsville, Va.

• Tuna
• Lettuce
• Cucumbers
• Peppers
• Red onions
• Hot peppers
• Banana peppers
• Honey mustard
• Pepper
• Bread: Fresh-baked honey oat
