LILLINGTON, N.C. -- Driving through many neighborhoods during the holidays, seeing Christmas lights is nothing rare. But in Lillington, one man’s house shines brighter than just about any other. It’s his way of helping others get in the Christmas spirit.

Every Christmas when John Sheuring was a boy, his grandparents would drive him around to look at the lights. The experience left an impression on his life.

"And ever since then, it stuck with me, and when I had the chance, I would put my lights and expand them worthwhile, making them where people would enjoy seeing them day after day," said Sheuring.

For the past five years, Sheuring and his wife Theresa have had one of the brightest yards around. Each year, they decorate their property with more than 70,000 bulbs. It takes about four months to plan and set up all the lights.

Their home is located at 212 Manor Hills Road in Lillington off of US Highway 421. They turn the lights on every night at 5:30 p.m.

People throughout the community can drive through the family’s driveway to see the display. This year, along with the lights, the display will add a Christmas music soundtrack. Music blasts from the porch and the lights blink in sync with them.

Sheuring said he’s had 97 cars drive by on Wednesday night, and expects much more.

"We just enjoy being able to spend time talking with them, learning about them, getting to know more of them and hoping that they'll come back again next year,” he said.
