MEBANE, N.C. – Tanger Outlets, which built the country's first authentic outlet shopping center in Alamance County in the 198s, broke ground Thursday on a new 317,000 square foot facility in Mebane.

In addition to the 80 upscale outlet stores, the shopping center will provide a significant boost to the state's economy, creating 300 construction jobs and an additional 800 positions when the facility opens.

“The new Tanger Outlet will also pump an estimated $7.2 million each year into property and sales tax revenue, locally and to the state,” Tanger Factory Outlet President Steven B. Tanger said.

Located off I-40 between Raleigh and Greensboro, the shopping center will serve those living in both the Triangle and the Triad.

“It will be a $60 million world class regional shopping attraction that will provide brand name outlet shopping and savings direct from the manufacturer to millions of eager bargain hunters each year,” Tanger said.

Tanger Outlets is scheduled to open in the fall of next year serving millions just in time for the holiday shopping season. It will be Tanger's third outlet attraction in the state. The company also operates shopping facilities in Blowing Rock and the Outer Banks.
