FAYETTEVILLE -- The state is investigating what kind of contact Cumberland County Social Services had with the mother of Shaniya Davis.
According to the Fayetteville Observer, a task force is looking into when DSS made contact with the Davis family, what the status of the case was, and if procedures were carried out correctly.
Details are not being released.
The paper reports that following Davis’ death, concerns were raised over how state budget cuts are affecting the department. Officials say 70 agency positions remain unfilled and roughly 30 of those vacant spots are considered critical positions.
