CHARLOTTE – Former Carolina Panthers linebacker Dan Morgan has been asked to be part of a new NFL committee on concussions in light of a number of star players who have recently been sidelined due to head injuries.

Six concussions in the pros caused a career change for Morgan.

New NFL guidelines were put in place to protect players from repeat injuries. The guidelines recommend that players not play or practice the day of a concussion. Players must be asymptomatic before returning, which requires an array of neurological tests.

During the process, players are urged to be honest about symptoms, and before returning to the field, players have to e cleared by a team doctor and an independent doctor.

Morgan says he lied about his injuries. He said players should take off a mandatory three weeks after a concussion. He hopes to convey that to the committee early next year.
