Gun vendors report profits
CHARLOTTE – North Carolina gun vendors reported that the struggling economy is not hurting gun sales after the C&E Gun Show in Charlotte.

Keith Queen of American Tactical and Pawn of Shelby said that demand is up.

"Mostly we've sold out of the supply that we have," Queen said. “Even though that money is allocated to something else, they've taken some of it and put it in guns that they're afraid they can't get in the future.”

Queen said people went from just browsing to buying after the election.

"Concern over guns, and concern of supply has made it where most people are buying instead of just looking," he said.

There was no shortage of buyers at the show, even though retailers competed with a tax-free break on certain weapons in South Carolina.

"Actually, we have people drive from South Carolina to our shop to buy guns. It hasn't affected us," Queen said.

Some shoppers reporting price differences in the hundreds as climbing demand pushes prices up.

Queen said his prices remain competitive and also reflect what's happening with the economy.

The gun show at the old Merchandise Mart runs through Sunday. South Carolina's tax-free holiday ends Saturday.
