CMS teacher faces sex charges
Michael Randolph Tye Jr.
CONCORD, N.C. – Police arrested a Charlotte-Mecklenburg teacher Monday after accusing him of taking inappropriate pictures of his students at his home.
Independence High School teacher Michael Tye was charged with sexually exploiting a minor and taking indecent liberties with a student.
Officers say Tye promised money to two of his male students in exchange for posing for pornographic pictures.

Concord police said they first learned about the photos when a parent of one of the students called Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.
"We know it was as recent as last week and it may have been going on several months," Capt. Gary Hatley, with the Concord Police Department, said.
Hatley said there's no evidence Tye published the photos online. He also said there appears to have been no physical relationship between the teacher and his students.
CMS would not comment on the arrest, but said Tye has taught at Independence for the last six years and also coached the swim team. The school system said he's been suspended with pay pending the investigation's outcome.
A woman who identified herself as Tye's girlfriend at his house refused to comment.
Tye is being held in the Cabarrus County Jail under a $100,000 bond.
