CHARLOTTE -- Mecklenburg County commissioners reworked their plan to pay for the First Ward Park development in uptown Charlotte.
County leaders said because of the economy, they can’t currently afford to cover their $13 million portion of the project. Now, the developer, Levine Properties, is proposing to pay for construction of the park up front. The county would pay back the costs at some point in the future.
The First Ward Park project is expected to include a UNC Charlotte uptown campus, retail, offices and an underground parking deck near 8th Street and Brevard Street.
