CONCORD – The national crime-fighting show America's Most Wanted filmed in Concord, N.C., Wednesday for an upcoming show featuring the double murders at the Sundrop Bottling Co.
Concord Police and family members say they're eager to make an arrest, but 10 months after two people were murdered at the soda plant during a robbery, investigators say they hope the TV show can help generate more leads.
For now, all police have is a sketch of the person witnesses saw at the plant the morning Donna Barnhardt and Darrel Noles were shot to death.
"We think that all we need to do is broadcast that composite sketch and hopefully we'll get the right call in," Angeline Hartman, of America's Most Wanted, said.
Authorities are still offering an $85,000 reward in the case, but despite getting thousands of tips, there have been no arrests. Deputy Chief Guy Smith said he hopes the national attention will change that.
"It will be seen by a national audience and right now we don't know where this individual may be and this will just give us a lot bigger audience," Smith said.
The Barnhardt family watched Wednesday as the show was filmed.
"It lets you know how senseless of an act it was for somebody like those guys to come to town and want to help catch them," Seth Barnhardt, the son of one of the victims, said.
Noles' widow helped with the recreation. She was in the parking lot when her husband stopped at Sundrop to put in a job application.
"The better job we do portraying exactly what happened, the better job we have of putting the information out to the public," Hartman said.
Family members said although justice won't bring the victims back, it will help them heal.
"I don't think there'll ever be a true closure to this senseless act that happened," Rebecca Valentine, Donna Barnhardt's daughter, said. "It's just getting that guy, there'll be a name with a face."
