TV show gives Coastal family new home
JAMESVILLE, N.C. – The Copper family of Jamesville saw their dreams come true Friday when Extreme Makeover Home Edition surprised them with plans to build them a brand new home.

It’s part of the Heroes Helping Heroes series: the show will help Jeff Cooper, a Gulf War veteran who speaks out for the rights of disabled vets.

But the cooper family faces a number of medical challenges. Jeff Cooper suffers from Gulf War syndrome and has multiple sclerosis. And his son Aaron lost most of his right arm two years ago when a garbage truck ran over him.

Now the Coopers will trade in their leaky double-wide trailer for a custom-designed home. They said they couldn’t be happier.

“I miss being able to go into their rooms at night and pull their blankets up to them, kiss them on the cheek. Those are the kinds of things that I miss that I’ve not been able to do for years,” Jeff Cooper said.

Edenton Builders and more than 1,000 volunteers will work with the show to build their home, designed by Kitty Hawk architect Jonathan White.
