TRENTON, N.C. -- A Jones County high school teacher's assistant and coach is facing numerous sex charges after two students came forward with allegations against him, district attorney Dewey Hudson announced Tuesday.

Dammion Martin, 34, is charged with sexual offense, sexual offense by school personnel and crimes against nature. Investigators say the case involved two different students at the school and dates back to spring 2006 and November of 2008.

The DA says details of the 2006 sexual assault just recently came to light.

"As a result of the investigation, another student came forward, and after reviewing her allegations that she was assaulted in 2006, we now have charged Mr. Martin with sexually assaulting two different girls," Hudson said.

After the 2008 incident was reported, the State Bureau of Investigation looked into whether Jones County officials handled the case properly. The district attorney says he did not find any wrongdoing by the sheriff's office in its handling of the initial investigation.

Martin's next court appearance is Friday.
