WINSTON-SALEM – Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center has once again been named one of America's Best Hospitals by U.S. News and World Report.

"We're very excited about it. It's a huge endorsement for our services and the fact that we're an academic medical center, the only one in the western half of the state," WFUBMC Associate Vice President of Marketing Susan McBurney said.

The hospital is ranked in the top 50 in five different specialties: respiratory disorders, cancer, kidney disease, urology and gynecology.

Dr. Frank Torti, director of the hospital's cancer center, said they earned the ranking because of the hospital's advanced technology and dedication to patients.

"Behind that patient, however, in the U.S. News and World Report ratings are an enormous amount of research in cancer that brings new diagnostics and new treatments to cancer which is part of the judgment that they use," Torti said.

While Wake Forest Baptist has been ranked as one of America's Best since 1993, officials said the designation continues to help to bring in the best and the brightest doctors and scientists.

"When you have a national reputation, part of that ability is to bring people in who will make your program stronger, recruiting physicians, scientists, researchers," McBurney said.

And Totri said this won't be the last time you see Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center on the same list as renowned hospitals like John Hopkins and The Mayo Clinic.

"We intend to be on this list at least at this level for many years to come," he said.
