RALEIGH -- A UNC Chapel Hill swimmer is in critical condition after becoming ill during an afternoon workout Tuesday.
Sophomore Allison Barnes was transported to UNC Hospitals.
A spokesperson for the University said Barnes' Coaches noticed she was in distress and took her out of the pool before calling 911.
Barnes specializes in swimming distance freestyle.
