DURHAM – The city of Durham ranks 32nd in the nation when it comes to environmentally friendly fleet vehicles. The trucks and cars that take care of everything from tree removal for the city to police cars received the honor from Government Fleet Magazine.
Kent Cash, the director of fleet management in Durham, says going green is a top priority for the entire county.
“By going green, we are reducing the emissions significantly,” he said. “For example, the 2010 engines as far as the diesel engines, they are going to reduce the nitrogen oxide by 99 percent.”
Cash says as a department, the city has a goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 50 percent by the year 2030.
