News14.com Week 12 NFL Picks

By: Michael Parks, news14.com

The flu is going to keep me from writing a detailed explanation this week for why I think these teams are going to win. It also kept me from picking the Thanksgiving games, so those won’t be factored in to my now 103-56 record.

Tampa Bay at Atlanta

Atlanta is clearly struggling more than people thought they would this year, but a visit from the Bucs should make them look a little better Sunday.

Parks' Pick: Atlanta 27-13

Miami at Buffalo

Miami should be able to run and throw screen passes all day against this Buffalo defense. The Dolphins, with a win, stay in that playoff hunt.

Parks' Pick: Dolphins 23-17

Washington at Philadelphia

Washington actually has a good defense; it’s too bad their offensive line is so bad. I think they shock Philly in Philly this weekend thanks to a stout defense and a couple D Mac turnovers.

Parks' Pick: Redskins 16-13

Seattle at St. Louis

We’re getting closer to the point where we declare a Worst Team of 2009. This Rams team is right up there in the battle for Loser Champion. Look for them to stay in the hunt with a defeat against the Seahawks.

Parks' Pick: Seahawks 28-9

Carolina at New York Jets

I watched the Panthers give away any chance of a playoff spot last week from the rafters of Bank of America Stadium. It’s tough to predict what two teams whose seasons are over will do in this one. However, I like Rex Ryan’s odds of motivating his defeated team more than I do John Fox’s shot.

Parks' Pick: NYJ 20-14

Cleveland at Cincinnati

The Bengals, as always, are a tricky team to start trusting. Last week’s defeat should have been a blowout victory, but they just can’t stay focused some times. Last time they played Cleveland, it took overtime for the Bengals to pull it out. That being said, the Browns are just really, really bad.

Parks' Pick: Bengals 23-10

Indy at Houston

It seems like the Colts are undefeated every year around this time, and then blow one or two in games they shouldn’t. This game could be one of those missteps, as could the upcoming Jaguar game. Plus, the Texans played them close last time in Indy. Regardless, I just think the Colts are just due for a string of defeats.

Parks' Pick: Texans 23-21

Kansas City at San Diego

San Diego is enjoying that stretch of games where they remind everyone that they have a lot of talent just in time to make people trust them before the inevitable playoff collapse. Look for them to keep building the momentum here.

Parks' Pick: Chargers 33-10

Jacksonville at San Fran

I really have no idea here. Both these teams are mediocre and boring.

Parks' Pick: 49ers 16-10

Chicago at Minnesota

Everyone’s still waiting for the game where Brett Favre reminds the league that he’s careless with the ball sometimes. But I think we’re all forgetting that No. 4 hasn’t been on a team this good since the Super Bowl Green Bay team. The Vikings are a good team that just needs to stay focused down the stretch.

Parks' Pick: Vikings 33-23

Arizona at Tennessee

Tennessee is playing well, but I don’t think they can put up the points that Arizona can.

Parks' Pick: Cardinals 28-24

Pittsburgh at Baltimore

The Steelers are only an OK defense without Troy Polamalu, who isn’t likely to play Sunday night. That should give the Ravens some room across the middle of the defense for throwing and should help the rushing attack. Meanwhile, the Steelers have to get back to running the ball so Big Ben’s play action pass can succeed.

Parks' Pick: Steelers 23-17

New England at New Orleans

I think New England can keep up with the Saints in points. The question is if Drew Brees can be careful with the ball and not give the Patriots any extra chances to score

Parks' Pick: Pats 35-28
