REIDSVILLE, N.C. -- Since July 16, four drivers in Rockingham County have reported being hit by things thrown from overpasses. Cars and tractor trailers were hit by rocks, asphalt and even vegetables. All of the incidents happened on Highway 29 and Highway 14. All were late at night.

Sheriff Sam Page believes teens may be involved.

"My first suspicion would probably be some young people. You know school is out right now, sometimes people get idle," he said.

Drivers whose cars or trucks were hit reported up to $8,000 worth of damage but Page said the damage could have been much worse if someone had been in a wreck.

Things thrown from overpasses can cause damage or even death.

"The first time someone gets their windshield smashed and something comes through and hits somebody and causes them to wreck and maybe even kills them... somebody could be looking at some very serious, serious charges," Page warned.

If you have any information on these incidents you should call Rockingham County Crimestoppers at 336-349-9683. You may get a cash reward and you don't have to give your name.
