BURLINGTON -- A Lee County Sheriff’s deputy is in the Alamance Regional Medical Center after being shot during a drug bust.
The Alamance Sheriff’s Office said the shooting happened at the corner of Anthony Street and Maple Avenue in Burlington.
“One of the deputies from Lee County was shot, one of the suspects involved was shot, and two suspects were taken into custody,” said Capt. Greg Seel with the Burlington Police Department.
Several agencies are working on the incident, which authorities say started just before 3 p.m.
Several agencies are working on the incident, which authorities say started just before 3 p.m. Deputy Charles William Drew, 28, was shot in the leg during a multi-agency drug bust. A suspect is also said to have been shot in the face, and was taken to UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill for treatment. Two other suspects were apprehended.
“This is crazy, I was sitting in my house and then I heard a whole lot of gunshots and I was like ‘What’s going on’ and then I heard the helicopters,” said resident Brittany Brown.
Burlington police say the agencies will likely be out investigating the scene late into the evening.
