CHIMNEY ROCK, N.C. -- A 2-year-old boy died Saturday morning after falling down a cliff at Chimney Rock Park.

The boy was at the park hiking with his family and authorities say at least one parent was nearby when he fell. There's no word on how far he fell.

Two climbers repelled down to try to rescue the toddler and started CPR. The boy later died at the hospital.

Authorities say they do not know how the boy got over a fence that lines the trail.
