TRIANGLE -- Last night’s severe storms downed power lines and caused neighborhoods in Chapel Hill to lose power.
A tree knocked down several power lines and blocked one roadway forcing cars to detour near Franklin Street on Friday, while other Chapel Hill streets also had downed trees. Police say most of that has been cleaned up. More than 2,000 customers in Orange County were without power.
The storms also played havoc on scheduled firework shows. The event at the State Fairgrounds will take place Saturday night after being cancelled Friday when organizers were forced to move people inside Dorton Arena for their safety.
The rescheduled display is set for 9:15 Saturday night, weather permitting.
Also, the show at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park was cancelled. There is no word yet on if that event will be rescheduled.
