GREENSBORO, Ga. -- North Carolina's Tyler Hansbrough has yet another award to put on his dorm room trophy case. The talented big man was named the 2008 Atlantic Coast Conference's athlete of the year on Tuesday.

Hansbrough is the 10th Tar Heel to receive the Anthony J. McKevlin Award as the ACC's best player across all sports and only the fourth player in conference history to be named regular season, tournament and national player of the year in addition to winning the McKevlin trophy.

As a junior, Hansbrough averaged 22.6 points per game for the ACC champion Tar Heels, the highest per game total for any North Carolina player since 1970.

On the women's side, Virginia Tech softball pitcher Angela Tincher took home the Mary Garber Award as the 2008 female athlete of the year.

Tincher led the Hokies to a 2008 ACC Championship as the tournament MVP, was the recipient of the USA national softball player of the year award, and led the nation in both strikeouts and earned run average.

She is the first Virginia Tech player to be named ACC athlete of the year in school history.

The Anthony J. McKevlin Award was named for the former sports editor of the Raleigh News & Observer. The Mary Garber Award was named for the former Winston-Salem Journal reporter who was a pioneer for women in sports journalism.
