Lamborghini opens Greensboro store
GREENSBORO -- At a time when most companies and families are struggling, one Italian car company says it's seeing record sales.

That's why Lamborghini opened its first dealership in the Carolinas.

“This is the Lamborghini that you may find in Italy,” Pietro Frigerio, Chief Operating Officer of North America Lamborghini. "So whenever a customer or someone interested in Lamborghini wants to experience Lamborghini, you can come to Italy. Or if you don't want to cross the Atlantic Ocean, you can come here."

With the new store, North Carolinians might be seeing more cars like these on the roads.

“We have 31 dealers in the United States, and here in Greensboro and Carolina, we have only this dealership and it's the first one and it will probably be one of the last ones,” Frigerio said.

The store's general manager said Greensboro’s location offers a centralized dealership for buyers throughout the Carolinas and Virginia.

“Greensboro is the perfect location between all of the locations in North Carolina and South Carolina for that matter, with Interstates 40 and 85 intersecting here,” Steve Jones, general manager of Lamborghini Carolinas said.

With cost of these cars starting at more than $200,000, it might be hard to imagine affording one -- especially with the state of the economy. But Jones said there is a market for these cars.

“The vast majority of our clients are not Summerfield residents, they are people from all over the world, basically,” Jones said. “So, as the economies around the world have grown, even though the U.S. has had a slight slow-down, people still want their Lamborghinis.”

Jones said they hope to sell about 30 cars this year at the Greensboro store.

Frigerio said sales in the U.S. make up about 40 percent of their overall business. Last year, the company sold 930 cars in the U.S.
