Registrations jump for Robeson Co.
The registration deadline was Friday. People can still register and vote at One-Stop voting locations.
LUMBERTON, N.C. – The voter registration deadline has come and gone in North Carolina. In many counties this year, that means thousands of new voter applications to process.
In Robeson County, officials estimate the county signed up 5,000 new voters this year – many of them this week.
"It's probably a little more than we expected,” Dock Locklear, Robeson Board of Elections director said. “Of course we made plans for that.”

Those plans included bringing in poll workers and volunteers for help during the week. Some employees worked more than 50 hours. Ninevetch Carmona, the board’s junior deputy supervisor, even came in on Saturday.
"Work needs to be done," she said.
But she and other elections workers around the state know the work isn't even close to being done.
Voters who missed the registration deadline can still participate in One Stop Voting, from October 16 to November 1.
"We're anticipating being busy," Locklear said.
