CHADBOURN, N.C. – The Chardbourn Pentecostal Holiness Church purchased a Winnebago and essential medical equipment to give free medical screenings in Columbus County.

It’s a standard medical office, just on wheels and free of charge.

"We offer the screening for high blood pressure, for diabetes, and high cholesterol," church member Annette Eissens said. "Also, we do dental screening for children 16 months to 18 years, and we apply the fluoride varnish."

Eissens is the registered nurse on the mobile unit. All of the personnel on the RV are volunteers from the church who are in the medical profession.

Together, they travel around Columbus County offering their services.

"We're in a county with some great needs, and one of the ways that we can reach out is to provide some type of medical assistance to people who may not be able to afford it or can't somewhere. We'll go to them," Pastor Richard Robinson said.

Then, if the medical volunteers decide that more advanced care is needed after the screening, they will refer them to an affordable physician in the area.

"We do have referral sources that we can send them that will see them for free," Eissens said.

The outreach program has already been a success for one of their own.

Justin Inman, who is 19 years old, recently found out through one of the screenings at the church that his cholesterol was extremely high.

He went to another doctor to receive the proper treatment for his condition.

"It's going to save a lot of people, because a lot of people are going to be like me; they didn't know they had a problem and the Mobile Medical Ministry is going to find it," Inman said.

The program is mostly funded by church member donations with some help from grants.

The next stop for the RV will be in the Old Dock, Nakina area on February 28th.
