CHARLOTTE – Volunteers gathered Sunday morning at the Charlotte Rescue Mission for an Easter community extravaganza that the mission has held for 71 years.
The group started preparing a midday meal, consisting of 120 turkeys, 80 pounds of mashed potatoes, 600 dinner roll and 70 gallons of iced tea, right after serving breakfast.
Organizers said helping others is what Easter is all about.
“When it comes to the end of the day, people just look at us and say, ‘I’ve never been taken care of so well,’” Rev. Tony Marciano, executive director of the Rescue Mission, said. “And it’s that giving of hope that’s what we want to see accomplished today.”
Guests will also have the opportunity to call home using cell phones provided by the mission.
