HIGH POINT – Workers from Moses Cone Hospital were busy Friday putting the finishing touches on their new Ambulatory facility in High Point. The 76,000 square foot MedCenter opens its doors to patients Monday.
Executive Director of Emergency Services, Kathy Haddix-Hill, said the new $30 million complex is essentially a full-service emergency department complete with a trauma room, radiology, rehab and cancer centers, along with a sports medicine facility.
"We do colds, cough, sore throat, broken bones; we can deliver a baby if we have to. We can do CPR on patients that walk through our door. If somebody walks through the door with a gun shooting or stabbing, we will be able to take care of them," Haddix-Hill said.
Jim Roskelly, vice president of corporate planning & development, said another benefit is that it will relieve the strain on their main emergency room on North Elm Street, where nearly half of all patients are from the western part of Guilford County.
"Our emergency departments are being used at high levels, resulting in long waits, waits that we don't want to have, necessarily,” he said. “And the demands keeps on going up. We see this facility as a way to decompress, move some of those patients who are currently going to Greensboro out to this more convenient state of the art location."
The new facility is on the corner of Willard Dairy Road and Highway 68 in High Point, about 15 miles north of the hospital's main campus in Greensboro, and will primarily serve people in, Jamestown, Colfax, Oak Ridge, Summerfield and west Greensboro.
"We want to bring everything that Moses Cone offers in our emergency department to this community we want to make it convenient for patients," Haddix-Hill said.
The MedCenter officially opens Monday at 8 a.m. But if you'd like check it out sooner, Moses Cone is hosting an Open House Sunday, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the new MedCenter. There will be food, music, and activities for the kids. The first 200 children will get a free bike helmet. It's located at 2630 Willard Dairy Road, on the corner of Highway 68.
