CHARLOTTE – The winner of the $88 million Powerball is a Kings Mountain native.
Jeffrey Wilson bought the winning ticket at the Petro Express on Cleveland Avenue on Saturday around 5:15 p.m. He collected his cash winnings at the lottery headquarters in Raleigh.
Wilson elected to get the money in a lump sum, equaling about $42 million. After taxes, he’ll take home about $29 million.
The big winner says he plans on going on vacation and then sharing with his family. He said he also plans on donating some of the money to a local children’s hospital.
Since its inception in 2006, the N.C. Education Lottery has raised more than $1 billion for the state.
