RALEIGH – North Carolina conservatives who say they're fed up with higher taxes marched on downtown Raleigh Saturday. They say they're carrying the momentum from a march in Washington back in September.

The FreedomWorks Foundation is organizing marches like it all around the country to protest what they call out of control government spending.

Former House majority leader Dick Armey leads the foundation. He was the featured speaker at Saturday's rally in Raleigh.

“I love North Carolina, such a spirit of freedom,” Armey said during the rally. “I believe freedom is a right given by the Lord God almighty.”

Protesters were also in Washington, D.C., back in September. They hope to carry that momentum forward to marches around the country.

“It was one of the most exciting experiences of my life, besides the birth of my children and my marriage,” protester Sam Southern said.

“We're going district by district in states and we're demonstrating against those members of Congress we fear are going to fail us in our quest for individual liberties,” Armey said.

Armey left the rally to fly directly to another taxpayer rally in Pennsylvania Saturday.
