CHARLOTTE – Some 1,700 teenagers from several states are in Charlotte this week for the Wesleyan Church Youth Conference – LoveMercy ‘09.

The group will be doing good deeds and learning more about the church’s mission at the three-day event. Other groups will be meeting in Baltimore, Denver and Louisville with the same goal in mind.

“It's an event to help them grow in their walk with Christ and to put feet to that and go out and make a difference in their community,” explained Philip Martin in regards to LoveMercy ‘09

To get to the event, attendees had to work hard through car washes and other fundraising programs. Now, in the Queen City, their work will continue as they put together care packages for the area’s homeless.

“During our prayer walk our students will walk through the city of Charlotte and hand out Help Bags to families or people in need,” explained Martin. “And we'll make those on their way out and hand those bags they've made themselves to the people within the city.”

Charlotte hosted the International Wesleyan Youth Conference six years ago. The event brought about 11,000 participants to the city.
