Meteorologist Bob Child
Meteorologist Bob Child was a Morehead Scholar at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. While at UNC, Bob sang with the well known acapella group 'The Clef Hangers'. During the spring semester of his junior year, Bob took leave from UNC to hike the entire Appalachian Trail (2200 miles) from Georgia to Maine.
Bob had been a science teacher at Woodberry Forest School in Virginia before entering broadcasting in the early 90's. A National Weather Association seal holder, Bob began his weather career at WRIC-TV8 (Richmond. VA) and continued on at WLOS 13 (Asheville, NC), The Weather Channel (Atlanta), News 14 Carolina (Charlotte), KEVN FOX 7 (Rapid City, SD), and coming full circle to launch with News 14 Triad as the weekday morning meteorologist.
While he loves weather, Bob has interests and passions that go far beyond the forecast office. He is a maker, player, and performer of Native American style flutes that he fondly calls "Ugly Boys" in honor of his first flute that was aesthetically challenged, to say the least. Over the years he has been a former barbershop quartet vocalist, restored a 1957 Cadillac by himself, worked as a professional photographer, and through his acting work has been a member of Screen Actors Guild since 1991.
But today, when he's not busy creating flutes, Bob enjoys getting out in Nature as much as possible with Martha and his fluffy rescue pup Mercy. And taking a flute along to play, of course.
