Anchor Heather Childers
Heather is the weekday evening anchor for News 14 Carolina. She is a Charlotte native and attended Myers Park High School. Heather was also named Miss Charlotte-Mecklenburg.
After earning a bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, she worked as a news director and main news anchor at WFXL in Albany, Ga. Under her direction, the Fox affiliate became the 18th highest-rated newscast in the country.
Heather was the recipient of the Golden Viddy Award from the National Academy of Television Journalists for best news anchor in 1998, and the Golden Viddy for best news documentary. In 1998, she was given the Reader's Choice Award from the Albany Herald for best news anchor and best newscast.
Prior to joining News 14 Carolina, Heather was the 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. weekend anchor at WLOS in Asheville, N.C. She was voted "Best Of" by the Asheville Citizen Times in 2000.
In her free time, Heather plays with her Jack Russell Terrier, Maddy. She is an avid inline skater and enjoys running. She is also learning to play acoustic guitar, studying Spanish and is pursuing an interest in singing and on-stage performance.
