Meteorologist Matthew East
Matthew East was born and raised near Birmingham, Ala. He earned his bachelor's degree in meteorology and a minor in communication from Mississippi State University.
An experienced storm spotter, Matthew was part of the North Mississippi Severe Storm Intercept Team (NOMISSIT), while in college. He chased storms during numerous severe weather outbreaks in the lower Mississippi Valley and even reported live via telephone during 2002's Hurricane Lili.
In 2002, Matthew began his television weather career at WTVA/WLOV-TV in Tupelo, Miss., and quickly moved up to the evening and weekend meteorologist spot. During his time in Tupelo he led coverage for a number of severe weather events.
He has earned the American Meteorological Society Seal of Approval and received the Associated Press' third-place award for Best Weathercast in Mississippi for 2005.
Matthew lives in Charlotte with his wife Lora Beth, children Jayden and Grace, and dogs Heili and Puppy.
When he is not keeping an eye on the rapidly-changing North Carolina weather, Matthew loves spending time with his family. He is also an avid sports fan and he never misses an opportunity to keep up with his Mississippi State Bulldogs.
