Deep dents need professional care
05/24/2007 08:09 AM
By: Ken Collins

Henry Bennett, an auto body expert from Central Piedmont Community College, talked with Ken Collins on Thursday and explained how professionals fix deep dents.

The first step, he said, is to grind off any paint and rust in the damaged area. Then metal studs are carefully applied so the body can be pulled back into place as much as possible. (See video for demonstration.)

A thin layer of body filler, no more than an eighth of an inch, is applied to the area. Body fillers today are made of polyester and resins.

The area is then sanded down, primed and painted to restore its original appearance.
