CHARLOTTE -- The David Carr-led Carolina Panthers left the field after being beat 20-7 in their match-up with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a chorus of boos from some of those left in attendance at Bank of America Stadium.

Carr, who started in place of injured quarterback Jake Delhomme, was unable to get much moving on offense, and the Panther defense could not stop Tampa Bay and quarterback Jeff Garcia and his combo of running backs which ran for some 200 yards.

Tampa took sole possession of the early lead in the NFC South, as the Panthers and Buccaneers had both come into the match-up at the top of the division with only one blemish on their season records.

Delhomme, Carolina’s regular starting quarterback, was injured (elbow) in the third quarter of last week’s victory over the Atlanta Falcons, forcing him to sit the entire game out. First-year Panther Carr, acquired during the off season from the Houston Texans, got the start.

Around the rest of the NFC South, the Falcons beat the Texans 26-16 in Atlanta, and the New Orleans Saints had the bye week.
