Friday Night Final
Despite the rain, there was still plenty of action from across the state. Sit down and enjoy all the night’s highlights and scores, in a rain-shortened version of the Friday Night Final.
NORTH CAROLINA -- It only takes one word to sum up Friday’s exciting high school football action: wet.

With fields across the state left soggy after days of rain passed through North Carolina, many teams who avoided postponed games were left at the end of the night in bad need of a Laundromat. But with the regular season about to wrap up, a little bit of mess wasn’t about to stop players from leaving as much as they could on the field.

Due to the weather, only three of the top 14 teams in the state were able to take the field Friday, all of which call the Charlotte area home.

The Independence Patriots came into the night as the leader in News 14 Carolina’s 14 to Watch. Their task for the evening: beat East Mecklenburg. The Eagles, losers of only two games on the season before welcoming Independence into their nest, didn’t plan to lay down for the mightiest team in the state. In the end, Independence was held to 21 points, but it was still too much for the Eagles to overcome. Independence wins, 21-7.

It's a foot race to the Friday Night Final.
Number 4 Charlotte Latin was at home to face Charlotte Country Day. Latin hadn’t dropped a game yet this season coming into the night, and Country Day had only one defeat. Country Day fought hard to hand Latin that first loss, but it wasn’t to be. Latin wins, 20-13.

And the Butler Bulldogs, Number 13, played host to the Weddington Warriors. Butler had lost two games this season by a combined seven points before facing the Warriors, who had 76 points put on them last week against Independence. Weddington, who lost three in a row coming into the night, fell again Friday by a large amount. Bulldogs win, 58-7.

Despite the rain, there was still plenty of action from across the state. Sit down and enjoy all the night’s highlights and scores, courtesy of the Friday Night Final.
