MATTHEWS, N.C. -- Local church members are reaching out to the community in a unique way.

Leaders of Next Level Church in Matthews want to increase their congregation, but are willing to do it in a way that may raise some eyebrows.

The church is using shot glasses that say “Give us a chance.” Hundreds of them have been made, and they want them to be used.

"What we wanted to do is to think of a way to reach people in their world,” said Robbie McLaughlin, pastor. "The goal for us isn't necessarily so many members but the number of people we can impact."

Local bars will start using the glasses in the next few weeks.

Local church members are reaching out to the community in a unique way.
"It generates conversation,” said bar patron Andrea Jones. “Whether it's good conversation, it could be negative."

Added McLaughlin, “The people that will have the biggest problem with what we are doing [are those] who already have a home in heaven or go to church somewhere."

He hopes to attract those who don’t have a church that they attend. Church leaders say several bars in the area agreed to use the shot glasses. They hope bar owners will start using them by the end of the month.
