One of the most recent meth lab busts in the area happened last month at a Lincolnton motel.
CHARLOTTE -- There is one incident nearly every two days in North Carolina involving methamphetamine, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
Police say meth was once primarily a problem in rural areas but it is moving to the city. They say the use of the drug has more than doubled in Charlotte in the last five years.
To combat the problem, the law enforcement community has started an education initiative called Meth 360. North Carolina is one of the first states in the country to start the program and Charlotte is the pilot program for the state.
Members of law enforcement and treatment and prevention specialists will work in teams to present information to groups in the Charlotte metro area.
The first training will be held Friday morning at 9 a.m. at the Substance Abuse Prevention Services office at 117 Morehead Street.
