Hilton Stepp, 7, wanted to help raise money that would go toward the MDA and research – money that one day might help his little brother.
CONCORD, N.C. -- This weekend, the Muscular Dystrophy Association held a fundraiser to battle the neuromuscular diseases that are affecting more than one-million Americans.
Hundreds laced up their walking shoes to take part in Stride N’ Ride at Concord Mills Mall.
"We discovered in September of this past year that our youngest son Garin has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy,” said father Gary Stepp. “The kids do understand what this is. They probably do not understand the magnitude of this disease.”
The Stepp family, like millions of Americans affected by a neuromuscular disease, are fighting for a cure.
Hilton Stepp, 7, wanted to help raise money that would go toward the MDA and research – money that one day might help his little brother.
With the help from friends and co-workers, the Stepp family raised more than $8,000 for the MDA. The organization says $0.77 of every dollar goes directly toward services. Every $85 funds one minute of research.
Organizers say the event brought in nearly $90,000.
