CHARLOTTE -- Residents fed up with two recent robberies came together in the Dilworth neighborhood, agreeing to pay for extra police patrols on their own.
Neighbors agreed to give a $1,000 donation to Dilworth’s Crime Coalition Committee. It is hoped that the money will help add an additional off-duty CMPD officer, and comes shortly after a couple was assaulted and robbed on Worthington Avenue, and a woman was assaulted and had her purse snatched in Dilworth.
Police said one person was arrested and charged in the second case. But neighbors believe the time has come for more protective eyes.

"We're talking about people who are being violently assaulted, pistol whipped, people getting assaulted on their way back from dinner… people who are frightened,” said resident David Matvey.
Added CMPD Officer Jim Gilliland; “We have a great partnership with Dilworth. The lines of communication are always open. We are constantly exchanging information, both from the leadership of the neighborhood and from the residents as well. And we welcome that.”
CMPD currently teams up with Dilworth’s neighborhood group, handing out flyers and giving safety tips.
