Hipolito Camora Hernandez
FOUR OAKS, N.C. – Authorities identified the real name of the man charged with a hit-and-run accident that killed a Johnston County child.
The highway patrol says the man is Hipolito Camora Hernandez, not Pollo Rodriguez, like he originally said.
Marcus Lassiter, 7, died Tuesday morning.
On Sunday, he and a friend were walking along Heath Road near Four Oaks when police say Hernandez hit him. Authorities say Hernandez was speeding and had a blood-alcohol content of 0.21. The legal limit is 0.08.
He is charged with felony hit-and-run, felony assault and DWI. Those charges might now be upgraded to second degree murder.
Troopers say they are working with immigration officials to determine whether Hernandez is in the country legally.
