News 14 Carolina's Conan Gasque has more on why more than 1,000 more flags will be waving in Fayetteville.
FAYETTEVILLE -- If American flags are a symbol of patriot pride, then it would probably be pretty hard to find a city with more pride than Fayetteville. The All-American City already flies the flag faithfully but on Saturday it held a ceremony to dedicate about 1,200 more to honor and remember the soldiers that serve our country.
"Now, therefore, I, Anthony G. Chavonne, mayor of the city of Fayetteville, North Carolina, do hereby proclaim Saturday, May 10 to be Field of Honor Day in our city," the mayor proclaimed Saturday.
The newly dedicated Field of Honor in Fayetteville has about 1,200 American flags, each one representing a soldier who fought for our country. That includes former soldiers like Joseph Hrabovsky, whose family bought a flag in his name.

"Well, of course I'm very honored and I'm very proud of my family," he said.
And his family is proud of him. As a matter of fact, they're proud of a lot of servicemen and women. Beverly Hrabovsky says the family brought five flags because they're thankful for the sacrifices of family members and friends.
The flags will stand on the Field of Honor until May 27.
"I'm hoping that they would think that they're able to be able to walk around and they have a free country because of the people who have served their country and have died for their country," Beverly Hrabovsky said.
Citizens could purchase a flag and dedicate it to a soldier for $25. Proceeds from the event benefit the Fayetteville Cares organization.
