MORRISVILLE -- Time Warner Cable broke ground Tuesday on a new multi-million dollar building in Morrisville. It will serve as the new East Carolina Division headquarters.
As jobs falter in other industries, the telecommunications industry continues to expand.
By next spring, the massive rocks and dirt will be replaced by a state-of-the-art $35 million headquarters on a 17-acre site in Morrisville.
"We certainly believe the building we work in every day ought to be on par with the products and services that we provide to consumers," Time Warner Cable Regional VP of Operations Tom Adams said. "So, I think customers will view us as the high-tech company that we our with this facility."

Time Warner Cable has undergone a much less visible transformation recently by creating the East Carolina Region. It includes 750,000 subscribers from the Triangle to the coast.
Company executives believe the change will create a more efficient business.
In this challenging economy many industries are dealing with job losses and cuts, but Time Warner Cable continues to expand.
"We're certainly not talking about layoffs," Adams added. "In fact, we continue to hire more and more employees every day and train them to be a part of our exciting business."
Time Warner Cable officials break ground on the new facility.
A national survey by the Cable and Telecommunications Association found the cable industry added 367,000 jobs nationwide from 2002 to 2007. It also expanded the total number of networks available from 308 to 565.
Time Warner Cable executives credit diversification for the telecommunications company's continued growth. They now offer cable, digital phone and high-speed Internet as a package deal.
"I was looking at some research yesterday and our research indicates that 56 percent of customers prefer to purchase all of their telecommunications from one provider," TWC Executive Vice President Carol Hevey said. "So, bundling makes life easier for customers and that's important."
While the construction may not seem like it will have a direct impact on customers, Time Warner Cable executives believe it will have a huge impact.
"This building will provide state-of-the-art facilities, state-of-the-art infrastructure to allow our employees to take better care of customers than they ever have before," Hevey added.
Carol Hevey and her team hope the investment will contribute to even more growth and improved service for the company in the years ahead.
Time Warner Cable employs nearly 2,400 people throughout eastern North Carolina. The new facility should be finished by April of next year.
Time Warner Cable is the parent company of News 14 Carolina.
