CHARLOTTE -- Self-defense experts say the worst part of an attack situation is the feeling of helplessness. With that in mind, nearly two-dozen women took a class Saturday morning at Alliance Jujitsu of Charlotte on learning to defend themselves.

Learning to defend yourself.
“Trying to teach them basic jujitsu techniques that will get them off of bad situations, off the ground, or even from the standup positions when someone is attacking them,” said Luis Tongo, a teacher.

Saturday’s instructor said the self-confidence that comes with training can help a woman keep her wits about her in an attack.
