RALEIGH -- Residents of North Carolina are saving less money now than at any time since the Great Depression.

For those looking for a good time to turn that trend around, look no further: America Saves Week began Sunday.

“Now, we all know that a lot of companies have started to do away with the defined pension plans and things like that,” said Brian Simpson with the Social Security Administration. “That's why it's really important for Americans to think about their other methods of savings whether it’s savings accounts, cd's, stocks, bonds and all that.”
