Mayor Charles Meeker says Raleigh's water use has dropped by 6 percent since stage 2 restrictions were put in place.
RALEIGH -- Mayor Charles Meeker announced Monday that the Army Corps of Engineers has agreed to cut the amount of water it releases from Falls Lake by nearly half. The move would save the city of Raleigh about 17 million gallons of water a day.
The mayor also said he will ask city council to start voluntary inspections to find out if businesses are complying with the request to install low-flow devices on all sinks and shower heads.
Meeker says we're not out of the woods yet as far as the drought goes, but we are moving in the right direction.
"We need to be very careful as we go forward until the drought is over, and it is by no means over,” he said. “This is just one step in our efforts to deal with the drought.
