RALEIGH – A Wake County Superior Court judge has ruled in a wrongful death lawsuit that Jason Young "willfully and unlawfully killed" his wife Michelle Young in 2006.
Young was found beaten to death in her Raleigh home in November 2006 and was pregnant with her second child. No arrests were ever made, but police said her husband was uncooperative in the investigation.
Michelle Young's mother, Linda Fisher, filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Jason Young in early November, requesting he be banned from receiving his wife's insurance benefits. It also asked for $10,000 in compensation.
Judge Donald Stephens issued the ruling Friday afternoon just before 6 p.m., just a few days after Jason Young missed the 30-day deadline to respond to the lawsuit.
Meanwhile, new search warrants released Friday in murder investigation show Young’s 2-year-old daughter may have been drugged by the killer.
According to the documents, investigators found an 8-ounce bottle of extra strength adult liquid Tylenol and a dropper in the child’s bedroom.
Investigators believe “the medication was delivered to the child under the mistaken belief that it would cause drowsiness. Once the child was asleep, the perpetrator would have been able to commit or continue their attack without worrying about interference from the child,” according to the documents.
The warrant also said it appears the child was carried from one room to another because of the small amount of blood found on the child’s feet and hallway between the rooms.
On Wednesday, warrants were released that show investigators are searching Jason Young’s e-mail account, but the details have not been made public.
Prior search warrants showed e-mail exchanges between Jason Young and a Florida woman with whom he was believed to be having an affair.
